The detail you will love making
A little texture goes a long way.
The deep brioche ribs give this simple shape its cosy character. The shoulders curve naturally as the fabric grows, and the soft collar adds a little extra warmth around the neck.

How it comes together
Start at the back hem and knit continuously toward the front hem. The piece needs two side seams; the open neck folds into a collar. Make a brioche swatch first so you can see how your chosen yarn behaves.
Check your yarn, tools and measurements before casting on.
Child sizes: 1–2 / 4–6 / 8–10 / 12–14 years. Finished chest circumference: approximately 63.5 / 77 / 89.5 / 98 cm. Adult sizes 32–34 / 36–38 / 40–42 / 44–46 are also included; finished chests approximately 104 / 114.5 / 125 / 135.5 cm.
The intended fit includes 18–20 cm of positive ease. Compare the finished measurement with the wearer’s chest and a comfortable layer.
Aran-weight wool blend: approximately 254 / 400 / 483 / 585 m for child sizes, and 644 / 752 / 870 / 900 m for adult sizes.
4.5 mm straight or circular needles, six removable markers, two spare double-pointed needles, two stitch holders and a tapestry needle.
Blocked gauge: 16 stitches × 24 rows per 10 cm in stockinette; 11 stitches × 32 rows per 10 cm in brioche.
What to know before your first row.
Written instructions for a boxy, sleeveless vest worked as one piece from back hem to front hem. Two side seams finish the garment, and the slit neckline folds over like a shawl collar.

Advanced beginner to intermediate. You should be comfortable casting on, knitting, purling, yarn overs, basic increases and decreases, and picking up stitches. The brioche fabric needs careful row counting.
