Knit a Nordic star cardigan, newborn to 13

You want a winter cardigan for a child in your life that is worth the hours you put into it. Warm, properly fitted, and good enough to keep for the next child after.

Steeking is the part that makes most people hesitate. The instructions take you through it, from securing the stitches to covering the cut edge with ribbon, so you are not guessing with scissors in your hand.

Finished Size: Newborn to 13 years, finished chest 49 cm to 92 cm

• 16 sizes included, so you can make it again for a younger sibling or the next winter without starting from scratch
• Almost all of the colourwork is worked in the round, so you read the chart from the right side the whole way and your tension stays even
• Raglan yoke, short-row neck shaping and generous positive ease, so it fits a growing child and leaves room for a layer underneath

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in a main colour and a contrast colour (a non-superwash wool is the easiest choice for stranded colourwork)
• 4.0 mm circular needles for the body and 3.5 mm for the ribbing, dpns optional for sleeves
• 4 to 9 buttons, 12 to 23 mm
• Ribbon, 15 to 25 mm wide, for the cut edges
• Stitch markers, stitch holders or scrap yarn, tapestry needle, sewing thread
