What is inside the pattern?
An 11-page English PDF with written instructions, charts and symbol keys, construction photos, and video links. It covers both blanket bases, joining the triangles, the leaf-and-bobble border and the final edging rounds.
Is this the right level for me?
Intermediate. You will use knit and purl stitches, yarn overs, increases and decreases, Kitchener stitch, a provisional crochet-chain cast-on, bobbles and picked-up stitches. The PDF includes close-up photos, chart keys and video links for support.
How big is the finished blanket?
The square design is adjustable. The designer’s examples measure 100 × 100 cm (40 × 40 in) in plain knitting and 110 × 110 cm (43 × 43 in) in garter stitch. Your finished size depends on yarn, gauge and how large you choose to knit it.
Materials needed
Yarn: DROPS Air or an alternative suited to your chosen gauge. The designer’s examples use approximately 735 m / 800 yd for the plain-knit blanket or 1,100 m / 1,200 yd for the garter version. Quantity varies with yarn, gauge and finished size.
100 cm / 40 in circular needles for the base
Double-pointed needles for the border
200 cm / 80 in circular needles for the edging
Crochet hook and contrasting waste yarn for the provisional cast-on
Tapestry needle, stitch markers and tape measure
The examples use 6 mm / US 10 needles for plain knitting and 5 mm / US 8 for garter stitch. Swatch first and choose needle diameter to suit your yarn. Full size and gauge details are below.
Choose a smooth plain-knit centre or the soft ridges of garter stitch.
02
A size chosen by you
Build the triangles to the required length, then add the decorative border.
03
A finish worth keeping
Leaf shapes and little bobbles frame the centre with a distinctive handmade edge.
The details make it special
A delicate border. A gift that feels personal.
The lace edging frames the blanket beautifully, giving your finished gift a thoughtful handmade finish. Choose a quiet neutral or a colour that belongs in their nursery.
Work the blanket base as two triangles, graft them together with Kitchener stitch, then add the border and final edging rounds.
Know what is waiting inside your pattern
Keep the written steps beside your needles, check a chart, or turn to a close-up photo when you want to see how a technique comes together.
01
Written steps + charts
An 11-page English PDF with instructions for both bases, charts for the stitch patterns and a key to the symbols.
02
Photos of the tricky parts
See the triangle construction, grafting, provisional cast-on, border attachment and finishing in close-up.
03
Video links as you work
Links accompany techniques and individual border rows, so you can refer to a demonstration alongside the written instructions.
From two triangles to a blanket made by you
A look at the construction before you cast on. The PDF walks you through the stitches and joins.
01
Knit the two triangles
Choose plain knitting or garter stitch. Work two matching triangles, increasing to the length you need.
02
Join the centre
Graft the live stitches with Kitchener stitch. Separate photo instructions show the join for each texture.
03
Add the finishing detail
Work the leaf-and-bobble border around the base, join its ends, then pick up stitches for the final edging rounds.
Same delicate border. Two different textures.
Choose the centre you would love to make. Both versions use the same decorative border.
Plain knitting
A smooth centre that lets the lace leaves and bobbles stand out. The PDF explains how to graft the two plain-knit triangles.
Garter stitch
A centre with visible ridges and texture. Includes its own photographed joining sequence for the garter-stitch triangles.
Your yarn and tension affect the shape and size. Use the planning examples below as a starting point and swatch before choosing your final needle size.
Plan the blanket you want to make
Both versions can be adjusted. These are the designer’s examples, so you have a starting point for choosing yarn and needles.
Plain-knit example
100 × 100 cm / 40 × 40 in
6 mm / US 10 needles Approx. 735 m / 800 yd Yarn: 210 m per 100 g Gauge: 11 stitches × 20 rows per 10 cm
Garter-stitch example
110 × 110 cm / 43 × 43 in
5 mm / US 8 needles Approx. 1,100 m / 1,200 yd Yarn: 200 m per 100 g Gauge: 13 stitches × 24 rows per 10 cm
Swatch first: plain knitting can form a diamond rather than a perfect square. For a squarer result, the designer recommends aiming for about twice as many rows as stitches per 10 cm. Yarn quantity varies with your gauge and chosen size.
Before you cast on
Gather your yarn. Choose your version.
Yarn: DROPS Air, or an alternative chosen with the gauge and shape guidance in mind.
100 cm / 40 in circular needles for the base
Double-pointed needles for the border
200 cm / 80 in circular needles for edging rounds
Stitch markers, tape measure, crochet hook, tapestry needle and contrasting waste yarn for the provisional cast-on
Choose needle diameter for your yarn and gauge. The sizes above are examples, rather than one fixed requirement for every blanket.
A few things before you begin
Know what’s included and what to expect from your project.
Am I buying a finished blanket?+
No. This is a digital knitting pattern in English. The finished blanket, yarn and tools are not included.
What is included in the pattern?+
One 11-page English PDF with plain-knit and garter-stitch versions, written instructions, charts and symbol keys, close-up photos and video links. The border has written row instructions as well as a chart.
Do I need to read charts?+
The PDF includes charts with symbol keys and written instructions. The leaf border is also explained row by row, with video links alongside the rows.
Can I use a different yarn?+
Yes, but your gauge, finished shape and yarn requirements can change. Swatch first and choose needles to suit your yarn. The planning examples show two combinations rather than one fixed yarn requirement.
Is the border knitted separately?+
The border is knitted after the centre and attached to the base as you work. Its ends are then joined with Kitchener stitch before the final edging rounds.
Are the videos inside the PDF?+
The PDF contains links labelled VIDEO, including links for techniques and individual border rows. They open external videos rather than playing offline inside the PDF.
How long will it take?+
The designer does not give a fixed completion time. Allow for your knitting pace, the version you choose, your gauge and your finished blanket size.
