What is inside the pattern?

Includes written vest directions in nine sizes and a separate patchwork block guide, with diagrams and video links for selected techniques.

Is this the right level for me?

Build the star with provisional cast-on, wrap-and-turn short rows and joins. Pick up stitches around it, switch between horizontal and vertical garter stitch, graft the shoulders and finish the edge with i-cord.

Finished size & fit

Nine sizes from 1–2 years to 13–14 years, for heights of 80–160 cm. Finished chest is 63–91 cm and length is 29–47 cm. Aim for 10–15 cm of chest ease and check the finished length.

Materials needed

Use 270–650 m of worsted or DK for the main colour, plus 12 m each in contrasts 1 and 2 and 24 m in contrast 3. Use a 3.5 mm circular needle with a 100 cm or longer cable, waste yarn, a crochet hook, a tapestry needle and your choice of closure.

Picture the finished project

The finished project

A star that belongs to the back panel

The star becomes part of the fabric as you pick up around it. Choose contrasts that separate the points from the background, especially if you’re using leftovers.

Check row gauge before joining the block

Some joins match a stitch edge to a row edge. The 1:2 stitch-to-row ratio matters as much as the overall width when those edges meet.

A few things before you begin

Choose your size, check your yarn and plan your first stitches.

Can I choose a button instead of a zipper?

Yes. The pattern includes finishing options for an open-ended zipper or buttons and a loop.

Are the ages the only way to pick a size?

Use height, finished chest and total length together. The age labels are a reference.

What gauge should I aim for?

23 stitches and 46 rows per 10 cm in blocked garter stitch on 3.5 mm needles. Keep the stitch-to-row ratio close to 1:2 so the edges align when the knitting direction changes.

How do I receive my pattern?
