What is inside the pattern?

English instructions with fully written rows, lace charts and a schematic.

Directions include adjustments for different yarn weights, yarn quantities and finished sizes. An optional middle section changes the elongated shape.

Is this the right level for me?

Confident beginner comfortable with lace repeats and shaping. The scarf is knitted flat, sideways from one tip toward the other, with an I-cord detail.

Choose written rows or charts. Keep track of the repeat and the shaping when pausing; the familiar wave pattern still needs stitch-count attention.

Finished size & fit

Sample: approximately 146 cm long × 38 cm wide / 57.5 × 15 in after light blocking.

The elongated diamond-shaped scarf is adjustable. Change the dimensions using the included options to suit the yarn you have.

Materials needed

Fingering-weight yarn, approximately 400 m / 437 yd in a 100 g skein for the sample.

3.5 mm needles, or a size that gives a lace fabric you like. Other yarn weights and quantities can be used with the included adjustments; finished size and yarn use will change.

The finished project

Let the yarn choose the kind of wave

A solid or tonal yarn makes the lace surface stand out. Self-striping or multicoloured yarn adds wavy bands of colour as the shape develops.

The 400 m sample gives a useful starting point for a favourite skein. You can adjust the size rather than forcing a different yarn into the exact sample dimensions.

Your time with the needles

From one tip to the other

Begin at a narrow tip and knit across the elongated shape. An optional middle section gives you another way to change the proportions.

The instructions are written row by row as well as charted. Choose one format and keep the shaping notes with it so the project is easier to return to after a pause.

A few things before you begin

Choose your size, check your yarn and plan your first stitches.

Do I have to read a lace chart?

No. Fully written row-by-row directions are included alongside the charts.

Will any 100 g skein make the sample size?

No. Compare length as well as weight: the sample uses approximately 400 m of fingering yarn. A shorter or heavier skein needs an adjusted size.

What gauge should I aim for?

Sample gauge: 26 stitches × 39 rows per 10 cm in the lace pattern after light blocking. Exact gauge is flexible, but it affects finished dimensions and yarn requirements.
